21 March 2013 Last updated at 12:30 GMT

School Reporter Meagan, from Gloucester School in northern Germany, talks to the commanding officer of the Mercian Regiment about the tenth anniversary of the Iraq war and how he coped with being away from his family in the conflict.

He tells of the difficulties of keeping in touch with his daughter whilst he was away, the importance of personal messages and how he liked to keep letters close to his heart.
