World War 2 songs: Jack Buchanan sings 'Everything stops for tea'
Context
With so many men drafted into the Armed Forces many factories and heavy industries relied on women to fill the labour shortage. Often staff working in offices and other professions helped too by giving up their lunch hour to help make munitions in their spare time.
There was a relentless need throughout the war to manufacture arms and armaments. Even so, in the words of one popular wartime number sung by Jack Buchanan, at 4pm 'Everything stops for tea'.

With a boom-a-lacker zoom-a-lacker whee!
But there isn't any roar when the clock strikes four,
Everything stops for tea!
Oh a lawyer in the courtroom
In the middle of an alimony plea,
Has to stop and help and pour when the clock strikes four,
