Tudor jobs: Privy to the King

Tudor jobs - a very special job at the court of Henry VIII

Sir Henry Norris introduces himself and tells us about his work as the 'groom of the stool' at the court of Henry VIII.

While attending to Henry's regular morning needs Sir Henry tell us about the day ahead.

Henry has risen early - at four in the morning - to go hunting. Hunting is Henry's passion and his prowess and courage are legendary.

King Henry recalls his youth and his pleasure in jousting; as he remembers the climax of one particularly demanding match his 'easement' is at last complete.

Later, during the hunt, Henry corners a wild boar and kills it with a lance. Then, when the hunting party is returning to court, they come across two poachers who have just killed a deer (see the previous drama - A poor man's medicine). The poachers are condemned and the royal party continues home for an evening of music and pleasure.
