Dance

School Radio offers three co-ordinated series that provide a comprehensive Dance resource for KS1 and KS2 PE lessons.

Each of the series provides opportunities to respond to a range of stimuli including specially-composed music, stories and poetry.

The series develop from simple movements based on the children's everyday experiences through to enabling them to create their own dances - as individuals, as groups and as a whole class. In each series the elements include composing, performing and appraising.

  • Let's Move

    Age 5 - 7

An introduction to creative movement which begins with movements based on the children's own experiences and develops through exploring spaces, levels, pathways, body shapes and direction. All the basic dance actions are covered during each term.

  • Time to Move

    Age 6 – 8

Develops the skills introduced by Let's Move, although many schools choose to use the series independently. The programmes include increased opportunities for both pair and group work and for independent creation and evaluation.

  • Music for Dance

    Age 7 - 11

The series provides a resource bank of carefully chosen music relevant to the curriculum for groups to interpret and inspire their own dance sequences. The supporting Notes offer ideas for building your own performance.

  • Dance Workshop

    Age 9 -11

The series aims to be accessible to juniors making it easy and enjoyable for them to get up and dance. The series takes a cross-curricular approach, allowing dance to explore other areas of the curriculum as well as traditional folk dance and dance from around the world.
