Focus: contrasting the lifestyle of a typical family in Kochi with one in the UK. Key learning objectives: to locate Kochi on a map or globe; to discover some of the differences and similarities between family life in India and in the UK; to explore the importance of festivals to the people of Kochi. Summary: In the first programme we meet the series presenter Ajay Chhabra as he begins his journey from the UK to Kochi in south western India. Once in Kochi Ajay meets a local family - the Vaikundanathans - including the son who is called Sanjay. Ajay visits the family home; shares a special Keralan meal with the family; hears about their leisure activities and occupations etc. Story: 'Mahout' (part 1). The story explores a festival celebration seen through the eyes of a Hindu girl called Prema.
