Where can I order Teachers Notes?
You can't!

Since Autumn 2005 we have made Teacher's Notes available online via the website for most series. The online notes are free of charge and are simple to download as pdf files.

We are making the notes available in this way for such series as Dance, Drama and Collective Workship. Keep an eye on the website to be aware of when the notes have been posted. We hope that you will find this arrangement every bit as convenient - indeed more so - than ordering the notes from a catalogue.

Please note that supporting publications for most of our music series - e.g. Pupils' Books - continue to be available in book form. They can be ordered from the Primary Catalogue which is sent to all schools by BBC Active.

What are 'podcasts' of School Radio programmes?
School Radio 'podcasts' offer the programmes from some series for you to download to your computer in mp3 file format. It's a convenient way to use your computer to acquire the programmes for playback either directly from your computer or from the mp3 player of your choice.

Podcasts are available for 7 days after transmission and because you can 'subscribe' to the podcast you need never worry about missing an episode.

Information about which School Radio series are currently available as podcasts is available from our Podcasts page.

More detailed information about podcasts from the BBC is available here.

Can I order programmes on pre-recorded CDs?
Due to copyright restrictions we are only able to make pre-recorded CDs of programmes available to UK schools. This restriction also applies to home educators at the current time.

However, both the podcasts and the 'audio on demand' service offered by this website is available to all without restrictions.

Can I download programmes from the website?
Some series from School Radio are available as podcasts - meaning that they are available to download / subscribe to in mp3 format for 7 days after transmission. Acquiring the programmes in this way is simple. To check out which series are available as podcasts go to the Podcasts page.

Due to copyright restrictions we are not able to offer all programmes or short-form audio as downloadable files. For this reason the audio-on-demand service offers 'streaming' files.

However, a complete term's output of programmes can be ordered in mp3 file format in a double CD pack, if you would prefer to acquire resources in this format. Please see the Order form for more details.

I've clicked on the audio link but no programme seems to be available..?
Due to copyright restictions we can only make most programmes available online for 7 days following transmission (there are some exceptions to this). At other times - e.g. through holidays - we make clips availalbe, which are primarily intended to offer teachers a guide to the style and educational purpose of each series.

The homepage clearly shows the status of each series by including the words 'clip' or 'full' beside the audio icon links.

I've returned my order to you but have not received anything yet - can you help?
We will do everything we can to assist you with your queries. However, any queries regarding ordering or despatch are best handled by our distribution service. For details of how to contact them please refer to the Order page.

I've lost / broken a favourite programme from a few years ago. Can I replace it?
We will do whatever we can to help but...

For copyright reasons we are only able to make available CDs of programmes during the academic year in which they are broadcast. For this reason we do not keep an archive of spare stock.

However, if a favourite programme is repeated (which often happens within the first 3 years after original transmission) it will be available via the order form once more.

It is extremely unlikely that any copies for programmes over 5 years old will be available. In these instances you will have to beg, borrow or steal from other colleagues or schools!

How can I find a song from old music programmes such as Singing Together?
For copyright reasons we are not able to supply copies of old songs (see above). If you know the title of the song or a lyric from the song it is worth trying an internet search as many folk and traditional songs are available on the web.

Alternatively you could ask at your local music shop and they may be able to do a catalogue search for you. Almost all the songs from Singing Together are traditional and may well be available.

Can I have a copy of an old set of Teacher's Notes / an old set of Pupils' Books?
The situation is the same as that for old programmes - we have no stock of old resources.

All materials that are currently available can be found by searching the 'Additional Resources' box on right hand side of each of the programme pages.

You may also like to look at the most recent resource catalogue. Details of how to order these resources are available at our Order page or you can visit www.bbcschoolshop.com

No other materials are available.

Our school would like to perform some songs from one of your series before an audience. Do we have to get permission? Do we have to pay a fee?
In most cases you can perform songs from our series to a school audience without further permission and without paying a fee, provided the audience have not paid for tickets to the performance.

There are one or two exceptions with older programmes, so please check the teacher's notes if it is a series that you have had on the shelf for a long time! If in any doubt at all please e-mail us at the Contact us page of this website and we will tell you if there are problems.

We do ask that you do not substantiallychange any of the songs or works as protection for and courtesy to the composers / lyricists / musicians - many of whom have waived their usual commercial rights to provide material for us.

We always like to hear about your performances and particularly enjoy reading accounts from the children themselves. Encourage them to e-mail us.

I am unable to find out if there is a music CD / publication to go with a music series. Can you help?
All current music series have a number of commercial products available to support them, including music CDs and publications.

To find out what is available visit the individual page for the series you are interested in and refer to the 'Additional Resources' box on the right hand side.

The exception to this is our new series from Music Workshop called 'Heroes of Troy'. All the supporting resources for this series are available from the School Radio website, including Teacher's Notes, song lyrics and music, plus transcripts of the programmes.
