Speaking and listening is a cornerstone of the English curriculum - as well as being fundamental to learning in all other areas - and audio offers an ideal opportunity to provide children with focused opportunities to listen and respond, whether it be to stories, poetry or non-fiction.
Programmes target the key learning objectives of the National Curriculum (and also the new Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland). Programmes also target the objectives of National Literacy Strategy (NLS) framework, with activities related to the Word, Sentence and Text level work of the framework.
Brief details of which objectives are covered by each series are available on the individual programme pages, with more detailed information available in the additional resources - including Teacher's Notes - which accompany most series.
All of the School Radio resources for English also have this purpose in common: to exploit the magic of audio - and in particular its ability to inspire the imagination - to support your teaching. |
