Programmes are available in three ways:
- pre-recorded CDs available to order here (due to rights restrictions these are only available to schools in the UK)
- as 'audio on demand' using this internet site
- transmission (which can be used for recording off-air if your school is licensed with ERA)
It is intended that programmes should be pre-recorded for use in the classroom. This enables you to:
- listen before use in order to schedule within your current schemes of work
- mediate the use of the programmes during the lesson
- use the programme in sections
- assess the suitability of material for unmediated individual or group use

Programmes are usually 15 or 20 minutes in length but will often take longer to complete in the classroom as you will be invited to pause at regular intervals to undertake the activities suggested within the programme. These pause points are usually marked by silence or an audio signal.
Use the pause points to:
- divide the programmes into convenient sections
- adapt the programme content to your individual teaching needs
- ensure that learning outcomes are being achieved
- turn a passive listen into a vital, interactive experience!

Most School Radio programmes are supported by online Teacher's Notes which are free and simple to download. You will need to have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. This software is free to download from the Adobe website if you do not already have it.
The Teacher's Notes provide:
- details of songs, poems, music and other material used within the programmes
- guidance on how programmes link to the curriculum
- lesson plans and other suggestions for integrating the programmes into your classroom work
- a comprehensive range of follow-up activities to support work in a variety of curriculum areas
Some programmes - especially Music - are also supported by a range of other resources including big books, audio CDs, song books, etc.
For details refer to the Additional Resources box on each of the individual programme pages. Resources other than online Teacher's Notes are available to order online by going to BBC School Shop. |

School Radio programmes are available for schools in the UK to order on pre-recorded CDs. Many teachers currently find this the most convenient means of acquiring the programmes. Each series offers a complete term's worth of material, available before the beginning of each term to enable you to plan your use.
Programmes are available at cost price - see the current order form for more details.
You can order by telephone, email or by printing out the order form and sending it to us. For more information visit our Order page.

You will need to have Real Player installed on your computer to listen online.
Programmes are available on demand for 7 days after broadcast. Refer to the individual series pages for details of broadcast dates. Use this information to determine when programmes will be available online.
During holiday periods - when the audio on demand service is not available - you will be able to listen to sample clips from the programmes.
Real Media 'compresses' the audio to make it conveniently available via the internet. For this reason the sound quality may not match that available on pre-recorded CDs.
