Monitoring

This guidance is intended for anyone in the BBC who has managerial responsibility for ensuring that safety is managed in any activity under their control. This could be by people in their direct line or third parties over whom they have control (for example contractors).
 
Managers have a specific responsibility to formally monitor the activities they manage to make sure safety measure are being applied.

  • Carry out risk assessments for activities under your control.
  • Identify the tasks which, if they go wrong, could cause someone to be hurt.
  • Identify ways that you can check that those things you need to do are actually happening.
  • Do the checks and record what you find out.
  • If things aren't happening the way that you want them to find out why and take action to put things right.
  • If you are responsible for a contract check that monitoring is allowed for and described in the contract, identify KPIs and check they are being met. Do some physical inspections to verify written information.
