Food and Catering

This topic applies to all catering carried out for the BBC including event catering, location catering, as well as the BBC Club and catering facilities within BBC buildings. The BBC requires that good standards are maintained and all statutory duties met. When working abroad, the standards will vary hugely, however they should generally adhere to similar UK standards where possible.

Key Points

  • If booking location catering or event catering for a BBC Production, a company must be used from the BBC vetted list.
  • All food suppliers in the UK must be registered by law with the local Environmental Health department (local council) where they are based. This also applies to most mobile caterers.
  • Anyone handling food must be trained in good food hygiene practices. This is a key legal requirement and also applies to temporary agency staff.
  • All food suppliers must have a Hazard Analysis (HACCP) plan detailing the control measures they have implemented for supplying food safely. This is a legal requirement.
