William's Story

My Maternal Grandfather of whom I have no memories not even a photograph. I really wish I had a special memory but unfortunately at the age of 26 he died at Ypres 3 weeks after my Mother was born. He left a widow 2 sons and a daughter but by 1921 my Mother was the only member of the family left. An orphan aged 4 years hence no memories for any of us. However for my entire life on Remembrance Sunday (first with my Mother but now with my own Sons) I have paid tribute to him and his comrades it is the very least we can do.

How I wish I'd known him or something about him. I am trying to discover if he had any brothers or sisters or who his parents were but it is very hard when you have knowledge to begin the search.
