George Munro Mackenzie was half Welsh, half Scottish, and he and his twin brother, David Richard, were born in Liverpool, where their father, George was a railway constable. Their mother, Agnes, was a pretty woman, daughter of a mid-Wales butcher. Georgie enlisted at Stroud in the Gloucesters, then transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. His twin, Richie, died of pneumonia in 1914, and Georgie died of wounds in Alexandria on 27 December 1917. His father died in 1920, and his mother was left alone; she never really recovered.
Georgie is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery.
