James Percival's Story
Menin Gate: Lance Corporal James Percival Simpson, No 18310, 10th Bn., Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regt.).
James Percival Simpson was a lace designer. His army training was at Aldershot, Lulworth Cove. We have letters he wrote to his brothers encouraging to join up. Made Lieutenant? and returned to war at the Somme; killed, 14 Feb 1916 in movements of the Bluff, Ypres. Body not found. The famliy took a lot of effort to get confirmation of his death. His family were involved in the creation of Crich Stand, the memorial to the Sherwood Foresters and we have photos of its construction.
