My father told me a few stories about my grandfather. One that stuck with me was when he would come home from the pub after a few drinks, get the children out of bed, and make them line up in the living room and then from the kitchen he would march toward the children with the broom in hand as if using a rifle and bayonet, when he reached the children he would break down crying. He was shot through the jaw at the Somme.
