Harry's Story

Harry Howard married my mother-in-law's aunt, Isabella Ritchie, in Aberdeen in September 1917. He came from Kent, a paperworker who came north to work in the paper mill in Aberdeen, and joined the 34th Seaforth Highlanders. He was based in Cromarty when he married in 1917. He died near Arras after 6 months of marriage in April 1918, aged 23 or 24, and is commemorated on the wall of the Arras War Memorial. His widow (who was 25 or 26) never re-married.

Married 6 months

My mother in law is named after him.
