William's Story

Gave age as one year older so as to be accepted by the Army. In fact he was only 17 when he was killed in action on 11th November 1916 in Bazentin-le-Petit. William lived his short life with his father, mother and seven siblings in Sunderland. His elder brother, Miles, also served in WW1.
