John's Story

John Michael Bennett was my Grandfather - In 2007 my husband, sister and I visited his grave in Tilloy-Les- Mofflaines France and joined in the walk to the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday. After the service we were invited by the Mayor for refreshments at the Town Hall and met many of the villagers who made us so welcome. Afterwards we met a representative of the War Graves Commission responsible for the upkeep of the graves which are beautifully maintained. It was a very emotional day for us all.

Sadly my Mother Alice never met her Father and she was a baby when he died - I don't know if he ever even met his daughter. We must never forget the sacrifice that these men made and the devastating effect their loss had on their families.
