William's Story

He was reported missing, presumed dead, aged 17.

William Ward volunteered in October 1914 with four friends also from Godmanchester. Some or all lied about their age and that is probably why they did not join a local regiment. He was reported missing, presumed dead, 9 May 1915, at Ypres, aged 17. Three of the other four were also lost in action.
