William's Story

William was the first child of my grandmother Lucy.

He was born out of wedlock in the Eastend in 1899, so he had a very hard start to life even for those days. At the age of 16 he lied about his age and signed up in the Essex Reg as private 18242 and was sent to fight at Gollipoli and died there on saturday 21st August 1915.

He is rememberd on Helles Memorial Turkey with no known grave, But his family remembers him still.
