Frederick William's Story

Lance Corporal Frederick William Chapman, S/8635, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, 22nd March 1918, age 21.

Born Camberwell, Surrey, enlisted New Cross, London. Son of Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Chapman, of 18, Grove St., Evelyn St., Deptford, London. Commemorated at Pozieres Memorial, Panel 58 & 59, Somme, France.

I have been told that Fred's mother (Emma) used to keep a light burning in her house because she always hoped that he had not really been killed and that he would, one day, return home again.
