Alfred William's Story

Sgt A W (Bill) Bate joined up in 1914, originally with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was with the regiment until at least September 1916.

A Survivor of the Great War

He next appears as a member of the 1/5 Battn. Lancashire Fusiliers in 1918, where he lists the engagements he was involved in from 21 August through to the Armistice.

Sgt Bate was my paternal grandfather.
