Edward Lionel's Story

Edward Lionel Holland was a Bombadier, then Corporal and eventually Sergeant. , He signed on in Chester, his home town, but was based at Colchester. He went to France in 1914 and was demobed in 1920. At some time during his war he was buried alive for several days, hospitalized for some weeks then returned to the battlefield. Unfortunately his War Record nolonger remains so details are sketchy, dependant on family memories and as he didn't speak of his experiences there is not much to go on. He was awarded the 1914 Star, British War Medal

and Victory Medal. He died of a heart attack in 1953 as he was returning from work.
