Articles of Faith
"We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost."
Are Mormons Christians?
"Are we Christians? Of course we are! No one can honestly deny that. We may be somewhat different from the traditional pattern of Christianity. But no one believes more literally in the redemption wrought by the Lord Jesus Christ." President Gordon B. Hinckley
Deification
Mormons believe that human beings can become like gods. But they remain subordinate to God even when they become exalted and like God.
Pre-mortal existence
Mormons do not accept that the life of a human being begins with their earthly birth. Instead they believe that we have an eternal life stretching either side of our lives on earth, and this governs their whole way of living.
God
Mormons believe that God the Father is the all powerful and all knowing Supreme Being who created the world. Mormons regard Jesus Christ as the central figure of their faith, and the perfect example of how they should live their lives. The Holy Ghost is the third part of the Godhead. He is a separate being from God the Father, and Jesus Christ.
Mormon attitudes to other faiths
Mormons do not believe that they are the only people inspired by God and so have a tolerant attitude to other faiths.
Living prophets
Mormons believe in living prophets - human beings who are prophets of God in the same way as Abraham, Moses, Isaiah, and the Apostles. They point out that Christ himself said that he would send prophets after him.
The Restored Church
Mormons claim to be Christian, but in a very special sense. They believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the church that restores Christianity to the form it had in the time of the Apostles.
Salvation and Atonement
Salvation is eternal life. For Mormons the ideal of salvation is to live forever as a family in the highest heaven of the celestial kingdom. Since there is no original sin, human beings are not inherently evil. But they often choose to do bad things, and so commit sins.
