Beliefs

The simplest form of Muslim beliefs is summarised in the Declaration of Faith (pictured): "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah".

- Basic articles of faith
- Muslims have six main beliefs, called the Articles of Faith. The primary Muslim belief is that there is only one God, called Allah in Arabic.
- Sharia
- All aspects of a Muslim's life are governed by Sharia. Sharia law comes from a combination of sources including the Qur'an, the sayings of the prophet and the rulings of Islamic scholars.

- The literal meaning of Jihad is struggle or effort, and it means much more than holy war. It can mean a believer's struggle to live out the faith, the struggle to build a good Muslim society or the struggle to defend Islam, with force if necessary.
