60 Second Sermon
Time code
1.16.30 - 1.28.00
Length 9m
Format 3 x 5m stories
Summary 9 Christian believers use a saying of Jesus to share an aspect of their faith in just 60 seconds. Fast spirituality for young people from a rugby professional, karate expert, ex-pole dancer, hairdresser, 2 rappers and four more.
Themes Biblical teaching / sacred texts, religion in life, right and wrong, wisdom and spirituality.
What have we got here?

The ex-podium dancer got my respect: she made interesting points. But the model was hypocritical because he lives for the body beautiful - it's the opposite of Jesus' teaching.

      Elizabeth, 16
This strand of the programme asked nine people with something to say to get their mouth round a sermon in just sixty seconds. Taking ideas from the teaching of Jesus these nine people (including sportsmen, dancers, hairdressers and others) reflect fast upon the difference Jesus made, explain one interesting saying of Jesus each, and raise questions for pupils about their own sources of wisdom.

When might you use this?

When studying the teaching of Jesus, the Christian community today, sacred texts in action or influence. The 60 second sermons are particularly suited to reflection on questions of purpose or commitment.

I liked the rugby guy best. He explained how his work fitted with Jesus' saying. Some of the sayings are a very big contrast with what you expect, and that made me think more.

      Naomi, 14
