Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks debates with Richard Dawkins
Britain's Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks has said that science and religion can, and should, work together.
In a new BBC documentary to mark Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, he puts his position to the test, meeting three non-believing scientists, each at the top of their field.
In this clip, he asks the academic best known for leading the scientific attack on religion, Prof Richard Dawkins, if there is a scientific explanation for optimism and hope.
Rosh Hashanah: Science versus Religion is broadcast on Wednesday 12 September on BBC1 at 2315 BST. Lord Sacks and Prof Dawkins will meet to discuss science and religion live at the Re:Think 2012 festival in Salford.
