About the women

Alex Best

The former model's ex-husband, footballer George Best, died in 2005.

Anna Ford

Anna's a retired TV presenter and newsreader. Her husband Marc Boxer, a newspaper cartoonist, died of a brain tumour in 1988.

Jayne Zito

Jayne's a campaigner on mental health issues. She'd been married to her husband for three months when he was fatally stabbed in 1992.

Joan Rivers

The US comedian and talk show's husband committed suicide in 1987.

Katharine Whitehorn

Katharine's a writer and newspaper columnist. Her husband, writer Gavin Lyall, died in 2003.

Sally Banks

Sally's the widow of former Labour sports minister Tony Banks. He died in 2006.
