Dr Ann Dent

Dr Ann Dent

Dr Ann Dent is honorary research fellow in child health, Bristol University, and a bereavement consultant and lecturer.

As one of the first Macmillan community nurses, Ann helped to set up and run St Peter's Hospice in Bristol. She then worked to achieve home care for dying children and their families in the South West of England, and was involved in setting up services nationally for children with cancer and running workshops for professionals on care of the dying child and family bereavement.

More recently, Ann has conducted research at Bristol University into support for families after sudden child death. She has given papers nationally and internationally as well as initiating and being involved in running two international conferences on children and death in the UK.

Over the years she has helped to establish two branches of Cruse Bereavement Care (a voluntary bereavement agency) and has been chair to the consultant panel of the Child Bereavement Network and chair of the Bereavement Research Forum.

Her writing credits include: A Child is Dying: Care of the Family in Illness and Bereavement (Patten Press); At a Loss: Bereavement Care When a Baby Dies (Bailliere Tindall); and Sudden Child Death: Support for the Bereaved Family (Dent and Stewart).
