If you need to take legal action, you can apply for an emergency injunction (court order).
Emergency injunctions are normally granted 'without notification' (without your abuser being notified) and usually only last for a short time until another court hearing can be arranged where your partner can put his case to the court. You would normally need a solicitor for this although it is possible to make an application without one.
