Blue Peter turns Red in Trafalgar Square for Comic Relief
Crowds in busy Trafalgar Square came to a standstill at 11am on 26th February as Blue Peter held their very own red stunt to help raise money for Red Nose Day.
Passersby and tourists were left bemused as a spontaneous crowd of people dressed in red, donned their Red Noses and struck a pose for Comic Relief.
Led by Blue Peter's Andy Akinwolere, who sounded the air horne as a signal to stop, the red rabble held their positions for five whole minutes whilst bystanders swiftly took videos and pictures on their mobile phones and buckets were passed round to collect money.
Andy Akinwolere said: "I'm so pleased that so many people turned up today - despite the rain! I've always loved Comic Relief ever since I was little so it's great to be involved in a Blue Peter stunt like this for Red Nose Day. I'm looking forward to raising lots of money and showing people how much of a difference even a pound can make to those living in tough lives."
Andy's stunt will feature as part of a Red Nose Day film which follows the fundraising journey at Comic Relief. From raising money, to visting Comic Relief's offices, through to attending a project as it is awarded a grant, Andy sees how money raised on Red Nose Day is allocated to projects in the UK and Africa.
Andy is not the only presenter embracing the spirit of Red Nose Day. Dare-devil presenter Helen Skelton will attempt to be the first person to high-wire walk between the chimneys of Battersea Power Station on Monday.
Tune in to Blue Peter on Monday 28th February to watch Andy's fundraising efforts, plus March 7th and 8th for two Blue Peter specials following Helen's incredible Girl on Wire challenge.
