About Red Nose Day
Terms and Conditions
Between 08:00 on 11th March 2009 and 19:00 on 13th March, Radio 1 will be running three competitions as follows:
First Competition: From 08:00 to 19:00 on 11th March 2009 Second Competition: From 08:00 to 19:00 on 12th March 2009 Third Competition: From 08:00 to 19.00 on 13th March 2009
Each competition consists of a question and four possible answers that the contestants can choose from. The question and possible answers will be read out on air during the promotion.
1. The competition is open to all residents of the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, aged 16 or over, except BBC or Comic Relief employees, anyone connected with the competition and their close relatives. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested.
2. Entry to the competition is only by texting to the shortcode 67770. Text messages cost 50p (when you receive the bounce-back message referred below) plus your standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates). Your text message entry will result in a 43.5p donation to Comic Relief for each text message entry. Please note the amount you are charged, and your contribution to Comic Relief, may - in some instances - be slightly lower depending on the adjustments that your mobile service provider made to address the current temporary VAT reduction from 17.5 percent to 15 percent.
3. For each competition, you will need to text a keyword, followed by the option (a, b, c or d) for the answer you select and followed by your name (so we know who to call, should you win). There will be one keyword for each competition, which will be announced during the relevant promotions. Please make sure you key-in the short code and spell the keyword and the letter for your selected answer correctly.
4. If your keyword and short code are valid, and your text message is received within the specified times and dates, you will be charged 50p via a bounce-back message. It may take some time for you to receive the bounce-back message. Please wait until you receive it.
5. If your keyword or short code are invalid, or your text message is received outside the specified times and dates, you may not receive a bounce-back but may still be charged your standard network message charge. You will not be charged the 50p entry fee and you will not be donating to Comic Relief.
6. The winner will be the first eligible and correct entry, randomly selected, who is available by phone at approximately 07:00 in the morning after the competition has closed (or on the following Monday, should the competition close on a Friday). If a winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, the BBC reserves the right to offer the prize to a runner up.
7. There will only be one winner per each competition and each prize consists of: (i) a memento from the Radio 1 Red Nose Climb signed by one of the celebrities that took part in the climb; (ii) 4 tickets to see a concert or a Radio 1 Big Weekend event; and (iii) a chance to meet band members or radio personalities (further details given in each promotion).
8. Travel to the concert (within the UK or from the Channel Islands or Isle of Man and return) will be included in the prize. Fares must be for economy class, non flexible train tickets or flights (if the winner is in Northern Island or the Channel Islands). If claiming travel for all four ticket holders, the journey/route for each one must be the same.
9. Accommodation for the night of the concert/event in a 3-star hotel will be included in the prize up to a maximum of two double or twin rooms. Meals and any other extra costs are not included.
10. The prize is as stated. There is no cash alternative and the prize cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances.
11. Contestants are responsible for ensuring that tickets holder have the minimum age required to attend the concert or event.
12. The BBC's decision as to the winner is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.
13. Entrants must agree to take part in any post-competition publicity if required.
14. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify any entries that breach these rules or are in any way fraudulent or inaudible. The BBC also reserves the right to cancel a competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside its control. The maximum number of text message entries from the same mobile telephone number will be one hundred, for each competition.
15. The BBC, Comic Relief, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any telephone network or line, system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost or not properly registered or recorded.
