Help Receiving BBC TV and Radio

Freeview news

Moel-y-Parc transmitter

2 December 2009: Following the completion of digital switchover at this transmitters, viewers will need to retune their equipment once more on Wednesday 2 December in order to continue receiving some commercial channels. For more information, go to Digital UK.

Wrong BBC regional programmes in Granada TV region

Digital switchover is currently taking place in the Granada TV region. We are aware that, after retuning, some viewers are receiving BBC One Wales instead of BBC One North West and BBC Two Wales instead of BBC Two England.

First, please try a full retune. If that does not solve the problem, you may need to perform a manual retune - see the Digital UK factsheet (PDF).

Note: To open a PDF file you need Adobe Reader software, which you can download free via BBC WebWise.

For more information, please contact Digital UK.

Changes to BBC Red Button

Overnight on Monday/Tuesday 26/27 October 2009, two of the BBC Red Button channels were switched off in order to make way for HD (high definition) channels on Freeview. This means that the News Multiscreen (1001 link) is no longer available, and some other content is not being repeated on a 'loop' as much as before. It was necessary to close these channels because Freeview does not have enough bandwidth to provide HD services alongside all the existing Red Button content.

Autumn retune 2009

On Wednesday 30 September 2009 improvements are being made to the Freeview service to pave the way for digital switchover. You will need to retune your Freeview digital box or recorder (including Top Up TV or BT Vision) or digital TV to make sure you continue to receive all the available channels.

You don't need to retune if you have satellite, cable or analogue TV.

The changes involve some TV channels - including Five - being moved between multiplexes. This will enable many Freeview viewers to get Five for the first time. For regions that have already gone through switchover, the BBC's national radio stations and red button services are also being moved.

If you're not sure how to retune your digital box or TV, see our retuning guide, check your manual, or go to TV Re-tune for full instructions for your model.
