Help Receiving BBC TV and Radio

BBC digital TV and radio – satellite frequencies

To receive digital TV via satellite but not through Freesat or Sky, you need to tune your equipment to the correct frequencies yourself. For help with tuning, please contact your equipment retailer, manufacturer or installer. If you have lost any BBC channels and have a Freesat box, you may need to turn it off then on again to make it perform a retune. If that fails you may have to retune it. Please refer to your instruction manual. Because of software limitations, BBC Red Button interactive channels are currently only available with Freesat or a Sky set-top box and viewing card. Any questions about the recent changes to the BBC Red Button service please visit our FAQ's on this link.

Recent changes to BBC services on satellite

BBC One Scotland HD has launched on the DSat8 transponder and later this month BBC One Wales HD will launch as part of the programme of providing all Nations programming HD. More information is available on Alix Pryde's blog about the BBC.

Astra 2D was also retired in February 2012 and the BBC services moved to a new temporary home on Astra 1N. Astra 1N is due to take up its permanent position in 2013 (19°East), so the BBC’s services will move to their new permanent home on Astra 2E (28.2°East) when that becomes operational. It is expected that Astra 2E will launch around the middle of 2013.

On the 26 March 2013 the BBC HD channel will be replaced by BBC Two HD. Please visit this blog for further information about these changes.

Will this affect my viewing?
These moves will have no impact on UK households. Astra 2E and 2F now have slightly tighter and more powerful coverage, which means that households should get a slightly stronger signal. Therefore, if you happened to be on the edge of coverage, you should now get reception that is more reliable.

The overspill of the BBC’s services will be reduced so viewers outside the UK will find it even harder to receive them. For viewers outside the UK, BBC Worldwide offers a number of channels, which are available in various territories. These include BBC Entertainment, BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle, CBeebies along with BBC World News throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
