Digital TV – Recording from your TV

To record a digital programme, do the following:

• Set your digital receiver – i.e. your set-top box or digital TV – to the channel the programme is on. Make sure the receiver is switched on (not in standby mode) at the time you want to record.
• Set your recorder to the correct channel for your digital receiver. (Please consult your recorder's manual for further details.)

NB: you can record a digital channel and watch another at the same time, but only if you have twin tuners in your set-top box or recorder. Please consult your retailer for more information.

With many set-top boxes and digital TVs, you can set up a recording using the EPG. This means simply choosing the programme you want to record from the on-screen display of channel and programme listings.

Set-top boxes do not all use the same EPG system. The information about programme schedules can come from a variety of sources (including the BBC), and may be updated at different rates – anything from every 30 minutes to only once a day – so late changes may not be displayed.

Note: some boxes, after being updated, automatically switch to standby mode, which may disrupt a recording that has been set up using the EPG.

Please refer to your manual or the manufacturer for information about how your EPG works.

With digital TV you can record anything that appears on your TV set as pictures or sound, including subtitles and also interactive features that you access with the red button on your remote control. You will be able to watch recorded content such as extra news and sports coverage, but you will not be able to use other interactive features (such as voting) that only function at the time of broadcast.

You can set your video recorder using VideoPlus+ code numbers, but not PDC (see below).

• VideoPlus+ uses the recorder's clock to set the times for recording to start and stop, so you need to make sure the clock is showing the correct time.
• If VideoPlus+ does not work, it may because the code number was wrong, the programme was rescheduled, or a power failure before or during the programme disrupted the timing.

PDC (programme delivery control) does not work with digital broadcasts because it uses a hidden part of the teletext service which is only available on analogue TV.
