Abstract
This document records an invited presentation made on 17 June 2003 to a meeting of the 'Freemet' group, held at RTCG Whyteleafe. Freemet meetings are organised by NPL, see www.npl.co.uk/electromagnetic/rfmff/tech-transfer/freemet/.

The presentation concerned the protection of radio services from emissions, especially those from PLT (PowerLine Telecommunications) systems which carry data on mains wiring. It showed why radio should be protected, what protection it needs, and then considered how it could be protected. In the latter part it was shown that both radiated-emission and conducted-emission limits have disadvantages and that current proposals for limits demonstrably fail to protect reception of broadcasting, by a very large margin.
