Abstract

A method is shown by which the two-cavity ballistic theory of klystrons may be extended to apply to four-cavity klystrons used for television broadcasting. Measured distortions of television signals and measured levels of harmonics and intermodulation products, occurring in a typical four-cavity klystron are shown to be in good agreement with calculated values. It is concluded that the non-linear characteristics of klystrons are largely fundamental to their mode of operation.
