The Production
Magic work area investigates the application of image analysis,
computer vision and tracking technologies to broadcasting. Applications
range from the inclusion of synthetic 3D elements in TV production,
to techniques for extracting 3D information from images to assist
the production process or create new forms of content.
This technology offers the programme-maker exciting
possibilities for creating a new look, as well as the prospect
of cost savings, for example by creating a virtual environment
that would be too expensive to use in reality.
Our work ranges from relatively short-term projects
that address the immediate needs of production, through to longer-term
projects where we are conducting fundamental R&D that has
the potential to radically change the way that programmes are
made in the future.
