MyMedia

MyMedia is an EU funded project which is looking at innovative ways of bringing content to the user. The aim of the project is to provide a next-generation ‘recommender’ system that offers suggestions based on several different sources of information.

In an attempt to overcome this problem the MyMedia project is studying ways to find content for the user, based on algorithms which analyse user behaviour. The project has developed a shared-source software framework which provides all the components required to build a state-of-the-art recommender system. The project is currently evaluating the results from four separate field trials in three countries:

  • A BBC trial in the context of online TV and radio catch-up services
  • A BT trial concerning the BT Vision IPTV Video-on-Demand purchasing service
  • A Microsoft field trial concerning MSN Video content
  • A MicrogĂ©nesis field trial involving OpenForCommerce, an e-commerce application for audio/visual content and music.

The MyMedia project has also contributed to two TV-Anytime metadata specifications recently published by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). TV-Anytime is a set of globally-applicable metadata standards designed for broadcast services and IPTV. The MyMedia extension to TV-Anytime enhance the collection of user feedback and introduce support for personalised recommendations.
