We have been working closely with several manufacturers of television tuners to assess the performance likely to be achieved by the first domestic receives and to draw their attention to some of the reception problems we have found.

To help receiver manufacturers we held a seminar to explain our thoughts about receiver performance in difficult channels. We proposed a model in which receiver performance could be characterised by two parameters, the noise figure which controls performance in difficult channels affected by echos and intereference. Manufacturers accepted out model, but have not yet been able to confirm that they will be able to achieve the levels of performance that were agreed to be necessary.
