Andrea is a Senior Research Engineer within BBC R&D's Distribution Core Technologies Section. He has a background in video compression and broadcasting systems. Andrea has contributed to the HEVC standardisation activities since their start in 2010. Prior to that he worked on Dirac, the royalty-free codec developed by BBC R&D. Andrea also worked on monitoring broadcasting systems, on ancillary services (audio description) and the generation of programme information for DVB-T. Andrea joined BBC R&D in 1994 after graduating from the University of Roma La Sapienza with a Dipl. Laurea in Electronics Engineering. He worked with the British Cable industry for 2 years in 2000 before rejoining the BBC in 2002.
