Research Collaboration

BBC R&D has a long history of carrying out successful research collaborations which have benefited the BBC and the wider broadcast industry. We work closely with other broadcasters, industry and universities in order to maximise the effectiveness of our research effort, to share knowledge, gain early insights, exchange best practice, and influence emerging new systems and standards. and through other bodies such as standards and Research Councils.

Our engagement with the EU research programme goes as far back as the early 1990’s for EC-funded projects (RACE programme). We continue to engage and collaborate externally with universities and businesses to support relevant fields of R&D as part of the BBC’s agreement with the Department of Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS),complementing the Click BBC’s Royal Charter.
