BBC Research & Development at MediaCityUK - Two Years On
As part of the celebration of the BBC being in Salford for two years, yesterday BBC Research & Development hosted a couple of tours around our Lab Facility in Dock House for staff members in other departments.
Two tours included demonstrations of some of the work we’re currently engaged in. In the Listening Room we had a demo of our 3D & Surround Audio work from the Audio Research Team. In the General Lab we showcased our work on developing IP based studio infrastructure. Our Viewing and Demo room was host to a demonstration of the Perceptive Media concept. Finally, in our Usability Lab, we demonstrated some enhanced subtitling prototypes.

Events like these staff tours are very important for BBC R&D. Our scientists and engineers all want their research to be applied to something in the “real world”. Events like this are a great way for the department to maintain visibility within the organisation and hopefully increase the chances of Production teams finding out about our work and asking to make use of it.

Thanks must go out to all the BBC R&D staff members who gave up their time (when they could have been doing more science!) to give the demonstrations and to everyone who came along on the tours. Hopefully we’ll do it again soon.
Happy Birthday MediaCityUK!
