2005: RTS Technology Awards

The Royal Television Society's Technology Awards 2005 were presented on Thursday, 8 December 2005 in London. The BBC won four awards of which BBC R&D had a hand in three. In the order in which they were announced, the awards were:

Research and Development Team Award: to the R&D Interactive tv services team (Jeff Hunter's team at BBC R&D).

The Judges Award: to the BBC for our election graphics, quite a bit of which was down to BBC R&D's Graham Thomas and his team.

Lifetime Achievement Award: one of the two awards Lifetime Achievement Awards was presented to Chris Clarke for all of the work that he has done over his 30-plus year career with BBC R&D. It particularly featured the work he did on Rec 601 and the DVB-T spec, but those of us who know him will also be aware of his work on "standard timing" and the ACE standards converter.
