Archie went solo in the mid-60s and had two long-term musical partnerships with fiddlers John McKinnon and Allan Barty. As well as producing records, Archie played backline for Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy in the 70s and did recording studio work with the emerging band Silly Wizard. Freelance radio production and presentation brought him into Travelling Folk in 1983 and he has hung around ever since.
Described as one of the definitive Scottish guitarists, his current repertoire bridges traditional and contemporary songwiting. Archie continues to tour, sporadically, in the UK and more recently in the USA and Canada, where he combines his performances with his passion for Western Style horse riding. He has recently returned to the recording studio again after 12 years, and released a new CD in 2008. Unfulfilled dreams: to master the Gaelic language, and the fiddle - if there's time!
