We revisit a row of empty and controversial Victorian houses in Liverpool.
A Year ago, You and Yours ran a story about a row of neglected and derelict council-owned Victorian villas overlooking one of Liverpool’s most splendid Victorian parks. After years of local agitation, the City Council had been ordered by a Government Minister, using an obscure piece of planning legislation known as a PROD, and unearthed by the housing campaigners, to find a regeneration solution within twelve months. That deadline has now passed and the villas still stand – but only just – even more forlorn and dilapidated. So we sent John Thorne back to Newsham Park, in the heart of inner city Liverpool, for a progress report.
