Around 3 percent of homes in Britain are thought to be empty at any one time. 680 thousand properties are unoccupied in England alone. With a high demand for affordable housing - and more than 140 thousand families registered as homeless - local councils are now making more concerted efforts to tackle the problem. And they’re not the only ones. Individuals keen to get their hands on a bargain are looking to buy empty homes and do them up.
