Across Europe controversies are breaking out about access to beaches. In Italy free access to the sea is guaranteed but the owners of some private beaches are refusing to let bathers stop on their way to the sea or enter the beach with anything more than their swimwear.
In Greece locals are fighting to reclaim private beaches and Russian oligarchs are believed to be buying up Montenegro’s coastline.
