This Friday 2nd January Design Consultant Rodney Fitch, Judith Gubbay, from Good Housekeeping, and Alice Rawsthorn from the Design Museum, picked the winner from your top nominations. The Kenwood Chef Mixers of one sort or another have been around since the late 19th century - but the Kenwood's genius was to make the beating motion "planetary" (as in like the movements of the planets), moving the whisk or the kneading attachment around the bowl as well as having it rotate.
