Care in the UK
Care Calculator

Step 1
Care Calculator

The Care Calculator will give you an approximate idea of the level of social care currently provided in parts of the UK.

The site also contains ...

  • A Care Questionnaire where you can contribute your views about the future funding of social care.
  • A Care Map, with links to Social Services and organisations across the UK which can offer expert advice and guidance on care in your area

First of all, some facts about the care system.

  • The number of people over 85 is expected to double in the next 20 years and treble in the next 40. *
  • 37% of people in Great Britain aged 65-74, and 47% of those aged 75+, have a limiting longstanding illness.
  • Every year over 2 million people become carers.
  • 1.25 million unpaid carers provide more than 50 hours of care per week.
  • Almost £15 billion pounds a year is spent on Social Care in the UK.
  • (* See sources below)

Find out more

The Care Calculator aims to provide general information about social care provision for adults in this country. The Care Calculator will only give average figures for England based on the most recent data available.

This has been included in a model created by the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the London School of Economics. More information can be found on their website (following this link will take you to an external site) at http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/PSSRU/.

The information is intended to be a guide only. Contact details of organisations who can offer a more precise guide to services available in your area can be found on the Care Map or related links on the Care in the UK website.
