Mac's musth is over

Mac's annual migration has now ended. After dropping out of musth, Mac left the herds in the southern Timbavati and moved north through the Kruger National Park back to the area where we first caught up with him over two months ago.

Report information

On the 10th of June Mac was seen by Andre Ganswindt, who is also following our collared bulls to study the physiology of musth. At that time Mac's temporal glands were still slightly swollen - one of the signs of musth. Four days later, however, the musth condition was no longer evident and Mac was associating with other bulls. So after two and a half months Mac's annual musth period appears to have run its course. He is now in an area where in years past he has stopped for a few weeks while en route back to the norther Kruger NP.

Wishing you all well!
Steve
